What Is PRP Therapy and How Does It Work?

PRP therapy uses your own blood's concentrated growth factors to heal tissue, restore hair, rejuvenate skin, and improve sexual health — with virtually no risk of rejection. Here's how it actually works.

Why PRP Works When Other Treatments Don’t

Most aesthetic and regenerative treatments work by introducing something external into your body — a filler, a chemical, a synthetic compound. PRP works differently. It takes what’s already in your blood, concentrates the most powerful healing components, and delivers them precisely where your body needs to rebuild. That’s why it works for such a wide range of applications — and why results feel different from treatments that are just masking a problem.

At Modern Wellness Clinic in Summerlin, Las Vegas, we use PRP for hair restoration, skin rejuvenation, sexual health, and joint recovery — all supervised by our clinical team, all using your own biology as the starting point.

What PRP Actually Is

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. Platelets are tiny blood cells that rush to the site of an injury and release growth factors — proteins that signal surrounding cells to repair, regenerate, and rebuild. In normal blood, platelets are present but relatively dilute. In PRP, we concentrate them to 3–5 times their normal level by spinning a small blood sample in a centrifuge and extracting the platelet-rich layer.

The growth factors in PRP — including PDGF, TGF, VEGF, and EGF — activate stem cell activity, stimulate collagen production, improve blood flow, and accelerate tissue repair. Because it comes from your own body, there’s virtually no risk of allergic reaction or rejection. The plasma is drawn, processed, and injected within the same appointment.

PRP for Hair Restoration

PRP scalp injections are one of the most effective non-surgical hair loss treatments available. The growth factors stimulate dormant follicles, extend the hair’s active growth phase, and improve blood flow to the scalp — producing thicker, denser growth over a series of treatments. Results become visible at 3–6 months as the follicle activity builds.

At Modern Wellness Clinic, PRP scalp therapy is frequently combined with our men’s hair loss treatment program including topical finasteride/minoxidil spray and hormone evaluation. Addressing DHT, testosterone, and scalp health together produces significantly better outcomes than any single treatment alone.

PRP for Skin Rejuvenation

Combined with microneedling, PRP penetrates deep into the dermis and triggers a collagen-remodeling response. The microneedling creates micro-channels; the PRP floods them with growth factors. The result is improved skin texture, reduced pore size, fading of fine lines, and meaningful improvement in post-acne scarring — developing gradually over 4–8 weeks per session as new collagen forms.

This approach is appropriate for patients dealing with dull or uneven skin texture, early aging, sun damage, or post-breakout marks. Most patients see optimal results after a series of 3 treatments.

PRP for Sexual Health — The P-Shot

The Priapus Shot uses PRP injected into specific areas of penile tissue to support regeneration, improve blood flow, and enhance sensitivity. It’s evaluated for men with erectile dysfunction who want a regenerative complement to their medication protocol. Learn more on our erectile dysfunction treatment page.

PRP for Joint Pain

Intra-articular PRP injections deliver growth factors directly into osteoarthritic or injured joints to stimulate tissue repair and reduce inflammation — without the cartilage-degrading effects of repeated corticosteroid use. At Modern Wellness Clinic, PRP joint therapy is evaluated for patients with osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, or post-injury joint pain who want a regenerative approach before surgery. What to Expect at a PRP Session

Blood is drawn, spun in our in-clinic centrifuge, and injected within the same session. Topical anesthetic is applied before scalp and facial treatments. Sessions take 45–90 minutes depending on the application. Most protocols require 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 6–12 months.
