Super Bowl LX Weight-Loss Commercials
Featuring Celebrities Sparks Debate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[Las Vegas, NV — February 8, 2026] — From controversial calls on the field to Bad Bunny’s history-making performance as the first Latino male artist to headline the Super Bowl halftime show, and of course the commercials, Super Bowl LX delivered no shortage of conversation-starting moments.
Among the ads drawing the most attention was the notable presence of weight-loss and metabolic health messaging, including commercials for GLP-1 medications promoted by high-profile celebrities such as Serena Williams and other well-known public figures.
Many view the visibility as a positive step toward normalizing obesity treatment and reducing stigma, while others are debating that the scale of celebrity-driven messaging may influence how these medications are perceived and who feels they should be using them.
Health care providers at Modern Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas, who prescribe weight-loss medications and other metabolic therapies, say the attention highlights both positive opportunity and shared responsibility in how weight-loss treatments are discussed and used.
“Seeing weight-loss treatment take up space on the Super Bowl stage signals a meaningful shift,” says Robert J. Webb, PA-C, of Modern Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas. “For many patients, this kind of visibility helps dismantle the idea that obesity is simply about discipline or willpower. When people understand it as a medical condition, they are more likely to seek appropriate care.”
Clinicians note that this level of awareness can help reduce long-standing stigma, misconceptions about health risks, and misunderstandings around access and cost, all of which have historically kept some individuals from addressing weight-related health concerns.
At the same time, medical experts at Modern Wellness Clinic caution that advertising alone cannot reflect the complexity of medical decision-making.
“These medications are effective and appropriate for many patients,” says Sharon Del Rosario, PA-C, a clinician at Modern Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas who prescribes weight-loss treatments. “But they are not a universal solution. Without proper medical evaluation, broad messaging can blur the line between medical need and aesthetic desire.”
Mental health specialists agree that while weight-loss treatment can be associated with improvements in mental well-being for some patients, particularly when excess weight contributes to emotional distress, increased exposure through celebrity-endorsed advertising may also have unintended effects.
“Reduced stigma is an important step forward,” says Muhammed Hyder, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist at Modern Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas. “However, increased exposure can also intensify pressure for some individuals, especially those with a history of eating disorders or body image concerns. Weight, identity, and mental health are deeply connected, and treatment decisions should take emotional well-being into account, not just physical outcomes.”
The prominence of weight-loss drug advertising during Super Bowl LX presents both opportunity and responsibility. While greater visibility may encourage more people who truly need treatment to seek help, experts stress the importance of informed, individualized care guided by medical and psychological expertise.
“It’s not necessarily a bad thing that the conversation has moved into the mainstream, or that celebrities are speaking openly about weight-loss treatment,” says Rob Webb, owner of Modern Wellness Clinic in Las Vegas. “However, awareness alone is not enough. That visibility needs to be paired with clear medical guidance, so people receive accurate information and appropriate support when considering these medications.”
